Steven Salamon presents his book on the History of Wally’s Deli in Cardiff

Wednesday 22nd October at 7 pm

Venue: Friends meeting house,Charles St, Cardiff

Steve Salamon is the grandson of Ignatz and Frieda Salamon, who founded the original shop in Cardiff in 1949 after fleeing Nazi occupied Europe. His father is Wally Salamon who moved the shop to Royal Arcade in 1981. Steven joined the family business in 1993 after a career in accountancy. 

The book and the talk is about the evolution of our family store, Wally’s, from its pre-story in Europe before the war to the current day, taking in all the dramas, people, customers and staff who have made the business what it is today.

Books will be available for pre/sale at a cost of £11.99 please bring cash.

Nächstes CSA Treffen: 24/9/2025 ‘Zwischen den Stühlen’ Als ‘Wessis’ im Osten

Stephanie und Alexandra erzählen aus ihrem Leben an der polnischen Grenze. Als Stephanie 1991 das erste Mal in Frankfurt war, war es wie eine andere Welt. Sie hat die Wiedervereinigung im Osten miterlebt und viel Veränderung in der Stadt gesehen. 

Alexandra ist als geborene Wessi im Osten aufgewachsen, spricht Brandenburger Dialekt, fühlt sich als Halb-Ossi und lebte ein Jahr in Polen. Sie erzählen vom Willkommen-geheißen-werden, von sich leerenden Städten und davon wie es ist irgendwo zu Hause aber nicht verwurzelt zu sein. 

Wir bitten die Gäste viele Fragen mitzubringen!

Stephanie Tarling

In Großbritannien geboren und in Barry aufgewachsen lebte die studierte Linguistin (deutsch und schwedisch) 35 Jahre in Deutschland, zuerst in München und nach der Wende dann in Frankfurt (Oder). In den 70er Jahren lebte sie 6 Monate in Westberlin, 3 Monate in Schweden und 3 Monate in der damaligen Bundeshauptstadt Bonn. Seit 2018 lebt sie wieder in Barry und engagiert sich nun viel ehrenamtlich.

Alexandra Marks-Zens

In München geboren und in Frankfurt (Oder) aufgewachsen studierte sie in Cardiff Englische Literatur. Nach einem Quereinstieg arbeitet sie nun als Finanzdirektorin bei einem Pharmakonzern in Schweden.

Neue Energie ist gefragt damit wir weitermachen können.

Jeder kann etwas beitragen und kleine Aufgaben übernehmen, auch wenn man nicht zu jedem Treffen kommen kann. Wir freuen uns über jeden der mitmachen möchte, Ideen bringt und auch andere mitverwirklichen will, damit unsere Partnerschaft neues Leben bekommt!

8/7 The Lord Mayors of Cardiff and Stuttgart with Beverley Watson invite us to a Tree Planting ceremony to celebrate 70 years of Cardiff Stuttgart Twinning at the Stuttgart Garden near the Bute Park Visitor Centre at 1.30 pm.

23/7 We will be holding our AGM at 7 pm at the Friends Meeting House , Charles st; Cardiff – PLEASE ATTEND and share your reflections, ideas for the future and willingness to take on any commitment in support of CSA and building on the twinning energy of this year! WE NEED YOU!

In this captivating historical drama, we spend intimate time with Hilde Coppi, a heroine of the anti-Nazi resistance in Berlin. In 1942, whilst heavily pregnant, Hilde is detained by the Gestapo, accused of transcribing coded transmissions from Moscow as part of the Red Orchestra activist group. As Hilde awaits her fate, she looks back at her joyful romance with Hans and the discovery of the hopeful activism movement in what becomes the most beautiful summer of her life whilst the world is screaming for peace. With an extraordinary performance from Liv Lisa Fries (Babylon Berlin) and evocatively filmed, this is an affecting portrait of love at a time of desperate danger and oppression.

On 28th May 2025 at 7 pm we welcome Adam Peace Lossl. He will talk (in German) about International Encounters in community projects- Internationale Begegnung in Gemeinschaftsdiensten (IBG)

Nachdem Adam Peace Lossl ein Jahr lang in Stuttgart bei Internationale Begegnung in Gemeinschaftsdiensten (IBG) gearbeitet hatte, leitete er seitdem soziale Projekte mit internationalen Freiwilligen in ganz Baden-Württemberg. Kommen Sie vorbei und erfahren Sie alles darüber!

Having spent a year working in Stuttgart with Internationale Begegnung in Gemeinschaftsdiensten (IBG), Adam has since been leading social projects with international volunteers across Baden-Württemberg. Come along and hear all about it !
